- 2. What is a merchant account? Why do I need one? - Top
- A
merchant account gives a business the ability to accept credit cards as
payment for the company's goods and services. This provides your
customers with an extremely popular payment option, beyond cash and
checks.
Studies have shown that merchants can typically
increase their business by 30 - 70% or more - sometimes even hundreds
of percent! Plus, customers are more willing to purchase higher cost
goods using a payment method that offers them repayment flexibility. It
is projected that by 2004, credit card transactions will account for
98% of Internet sales, equaling $55.6 billion!

- 3. How does it work? - Top
- The
merchant account provider authorizes the credit card transfer from your
customer and deposits the funds for their purchases right into your
business checking account, typically within two business days.

- 5. Would it be easier to go to my local bank to get a merchant account? - Top
- Many
local banks do not set up merchant accounts, but have relationships
with companies like Card Service International. Also, in addition to offering outstanding
programs, Card Service International regularly works with the kinds of businesses that
most banks consider risky and shy away from, such as new businesses,
Internet, phone and mail order businesses. If you do decide to get a
merchant account from your local bank, be sure that you can get a
payment gateway as well. That will allow you to connect your merchant
account to your web site. Card Service International provides you with a payment gateway
at no additional cost.

- 6. How long does it take to get a merchant account? - Top
- Application approval and set-up can be completed in as little
as 24 hours through the special
Card Service International program available to Loft Productions clients.

- 7. I currently have a merchant account through someone else, can I still use this merchant account with Miva? - Top
- Yes,
if you currently have a merchant account through someone else, you can
use that merchant account to process credit card orders with your
Loft Productions account. You will need to find out who your payment gateway
is (you can ask the company providing your merchant account). Depending
on
your payment gateway, you may or may not be able to do real time
transactions with your Miva Merchant shopping cart. If you can't do
real time credit card processing, you will still be able to use your
merchant account, you will just have to store the credit card numbers
securely with Miva and then process the numbers manually through your
merchant account. Once you know your payment gateway, contact us the
name and we will let you know if it is compatible with real time credit card
processing or not.

- A computer with Internet access is used for Internet, mail and telephone orders.
In

This can provide the customer with a paper receipt at the time of
purchase.
An imprinter, which takes a physical copy of the customers credit card, may also be used.
